Brandon Crawford will be the first to admit that although winning three Gold Gloves is an impressive accomplishment, it can’t be done on your own.
Two days after completing his Gold Glove three-peat, Crawford joined KNBR’s Giants’ Hot Stove show with Drew Hoffar & Kevin Frandsen, and Crawford gave his due credits to those who helped him along in his Major League career.
“I worked with Agi [Jose Alguacil] a lot, obviously through the minor leagues and we worked on a lot of different things where I definitely became a better shortstop,” Crawford said. “When I got to the big league level, obviously Wo [Ron Wotus] helped me even more, especially with the positioning and learning the hitters and stuff like that.”
In particular, Crawford credited former Giants’ defensive coordinator/current first base coach Jose Alguacil and now third base coach Ron Wotus as major contributors to his success.
“I mean, Agi this past year was just another set of eyes to see if he saw anything different than Wo or Wo would talk to Agi about different things as well. So it was nice to have another set of eyes on you as an infielder.”
Looking ahead toward next season, Crawford is excited to get to know the new coaching staff and learn from them, as he did from Alguacil and Wotus, how he can improve his game.
“Kind of in the same way as the infield coach can,” Crawford said. “Just an extra set of eyes. Obviously we’re always looking at our swings and I know personally on the defensive side I look at the ground balls I take and go back and look at film,” Crawford said. “Like I said, it’s kind of the same thing and an extra set of eyes to look at your swing and take apart certain things that maybe things you see that you don’t.”
