OAKLAND–Count Steve Kerr as a member of the growing fan base that adores Fake Klay Thompson.
On Tuesday evening, a YouTube star arrived at Oracle Arena dressed to impersonate Thompson, and he stole the show as a beefier version of the Warriors’ sharp-shooting star. Fake Klay first appeared at Game 5 of last year’s NBA Finals, and on Tuesday night, he arrived at Oracle Arena early and caught the Warriors’ head coach’s attention right away.
“I turned around and I was like, Klay, did you have a few extra burgers last night? What happened?” Kerr said. “It was great, I love that guy. I saw him actually at the top of the ramp when I was pulling in like two and a half hours before game time, it was hilarious.”
Every Warriors’ fan has a soft spot in their heart for #ChinaKlay, but now that the summer is over and Thompson is forced to focus on basketball, Fake Klay may provide for some much-needed in-season entertainment.
