With Arik Armstead likely headed to the 49ers’ injured reserve list, San Francisco moved quickly to secure veteran help along the team’s defensive line.
On Tuesday afternoon, 12th-year defensive tackle Tony McDaniel signed with the 49ers, according to a tweet from his agent.

McDaniel played in all 16 games with the Seahawks during the 2016 season, making 11 starts and recording 20 tackles for the NFC West Division Champions. However, the 32-year-old McDaniel has yet to play in a game this season, so it remains to be seen what kind of shape he’s in as he joins the 49ers.
Armstead suffered a hand injury that will require surgery during the 49ers’ week 6 loss to the Washington Redskins, and though he hasn’t been placed on injured reserve yet, head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated Monday that it’s unlikely Armstead returns this season.
McDaniel broke into the league with Jacksonville and has also played with Miami, Tampa Bay and Seattle.
