Buster Posey exits game against Rockies with injury

San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey was forced to exit Tuesday evening’s contest against the Colorado Rockies in the eighth inning due to a hand injury.

With Rockies’ second baseman D.J. LeMahieu at the plate, Posey took a foul ball that deflected off of his right hand. The 30-year-old Posey immediately jumped from his crouch before receiving attention from the Giants’ training staff.

The pitch from Mark Melancon that LeMahieu fouled off came in at 90 miles per hour.

Posey missed three games at the beginning of last week with a left thumb injury that he suffered while applying a tag at home plate. The Giants’ catcher has also missed time this season due to a concussion.

Posey was 2-for-5 at the plate on Tuesday evening and recorded a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to help the Giants begin a furious comeback effort.

Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said that he would prefer for Posey to play more first base as the season winds down, and after Tuesday evening’s injury, Bochy will likely ease his All-Star catcher back into the lineup when he is healthy to play again.
