It looks like the A’s and Giants will be playing for more than just pride during their annual face off in the coming years.
According to Brodie Brazil of NBC Sports Bay Area, the network is obtaining steel from the old Bay Bridge to turn into a “Battle of the Bay” trophy, that will be awarded to the winner of the series each year.

Since 1997, the two teams have faced off annually for a home-and-home series, with the teams splitting the four-game series this year. There is no word yet what exactly the trophy will look like or what will be done in the event of a tie, but this should at least raise the stakes a bit in what is typically a rather subdued rivalry.
