Curry surprised LeBron dance challenge story went viral

NBA social media was set ablaze this weekend when video surfaced of Steph Curry imitating LeBron James’ workout routine in dance form, while attending ex-teammate Harrison Barnes’ wedding Saturday.

The clip immediately went viral, especially because LeBron’s current teammate, Kyrie Irving, can be seen laughing at Curry’s impression in the background. Irving reportedly asked to be traded from the Cavaliers a few weeks ago.

When asked on Tolbert & Lund what he thought of the situation, Curry said he was surprised the video gained so much traction

“Yeah it did [surprise me],” Curry said. “I got on the plane the next day flying home back to Cali and people were texting me like ‘You had a good time at the wedding didn’t you?’ and I was like ‘Yeah, how’d you know?’. That’s stuff I would do behind closed doors or whatever and I don’t ever want to have the game or the stage or the pressure or being under the microscope change who I am.”

Curry said that even though he’s been in the spotlight for years now he still gets caught off guard by some of the things that blow up into huge stories on social media.

“Every time there’s something big or a headline that catches you by surprise it’s still an adjustment for sure,” Curry said. “We still live the exact same life we did when I first got into the league just the circumstances have changed a bit, which is fine. We try to keep the right perspective about that because even going to a casual wedding and dancing on the dance floor there’s 40 cameras of people at the wedding taking videos of you.”

Even with all the scrutiny of constant social media, Curry said he doesn’t want to change who he is just to avoid potential controversy.

“You’re just having a good time in your own element and it’s just a part of the game really,” Curry said. “Obviously I grew up around the game with my pops but he wasn’t on this type of stage with social media and everything. It’s a constant reminder of the privilege I have to be front and center and have an impact on so many people but at the end of the day I don’t want it to change who I am and what I do on a daily basis.”
