Betting odds released for Steph Curry’s golf debut this weekend

With all the success he’s had on the court, Steph Curry has decided to try his hand in a different athletic venue this summer, as he is set to make his golf tour debut. Curry will play against pro players in the Ellie Mae Classic, an event on the Web.com Tour (a feeder circuit for the PGA Tour).

It will be the first PGA Tour-sanctioned event Curry has ever participated in. He has competed in various celebrity golf events and pro-ams in the past with some success and he plays with just a 2.2 handicap. Curry will still maintain his amateur status despite participating in a professional event due to a sponsor’s exemption.

Many are giving Curry little chance to succeed in the event as oddsmakers have the odds of him missing the cut set at -2500 and making the cut set at +900. He is +250,000 to win the event. That means a $100 dollar bet on Curry to make the cut would pay out $900, and the same bet on Curry to win would pay out $250,000. You would have to bet $2,500 against Curry making the cut to win $100.

ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt said that while he doesn’t expect Curry to make the cut, he thinks that the two-time MVP might surprise some people on the course.

If the past in any indication, Curry has little chance of making it past the first day. According to Golf Channel’s Justin Ray, there have been 23 past attempts by athletes from other sports to play in a Web.com event, and none have made the cut.

While facing professional golfers for the first time will be a tough challenge, if any athlete has a chance of making the cut it’s Curry. The event is at TPC Stonebrae in San Francisco and runs from Aug. 3-6.
