Ex-Giants ace Livan Hernandez has filed for bankruptcy in South Florida federal court, as first reported by the Miami Herald on Monday.

According to the Herald, Hernandez issued a petition that requested Chapter 13 bankruptcy on June 30, estimating assets worth between $0 and $50,000 and liabilities worth between $500,000 and $1 million. According to the petition, Hernandez owes money to banks, credit card companies and the IRS.

Hernandez, 42, played for nine teams throughout his 17-year career that spanned from 1996 to 2012. During that time Hernandez is estimated to have earned $53.1 million in salary alone. Hernandez was a key member of the Giants’ rotation from 1999-2002, and pitched in five postseason games during his tenure, including two starts in the 2002 World Series, both of which he lost. Hernandez went 42-42 with the Giants, posting a 4.44 ERA.

Hernandez won a World Series as a member of the then Florida Marlins during his rookie year in 1997 and was also awarded the World Series MVP. Hernandez was named to two All-Star teams in 2004 and 2005.
