For the second time since being sent down to AAA Sacramento about a month ago, Christian Arroyo suffered an injury thanks to a hit by pitch. This time, it’ll cause the Giants prospect to miss a significant portion of the season.
Arroyo played his first game back off the DL with Sacramento last night after being hit on the wrist with a pitch in mid-June. In the fifth inning on Saturday, he was hit by a pitch yet again. Bruce Bochy told reporters on Sunday that Arroyo suffered a break somewhere in his left hand and will be out until September.
Bochy confirms Arroyo has broken middle finger on his left hand. Best case he returns in September. #sfgiants

A correction on Arroyo. It's the left hand fractured, not the finger.

Arroyo didn’t get much of a chance to focus on improving his game in AAA after being sent down while struggling in the majors. He hit .192 in 34 games with the Giants in April and May this season. In Sacramento, he was hitting an even .400 with four home runs and 16 RBIs across 24 games. Bochy didn’t rule out a return for Arroyo later this season, though it would likely come when the AAA season is over.
