The Warriors will meet with Andre Iguodala in Los Angeles on Saturday and offer him a three year deal, according to what sources have told Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group.
The third-year of Iguodala’s new contract has reportedly been the point of contention between the two parties, and is likely what caused Iguodala to test the open market and see what other teams would offer. It is unclear at this point if the third year will be guaranteed. According to Thomnpson, general manager Bob Myers is planning to offer Iguodala between $13 and $15 per year, a higher number than the $10-$12 million he was originally projected to receive.
Iguodala met with the Spurs, a meeting which he called, and Rockets on Saturday. It was reported soon after his meeting with the Rockets, which according to Marc Spears went ‘excellent,’ that Iguodala had cancelled all subsequent meetings. It is possible that Iguodala was pursuing meetings only to push Golden State into offering him a three-year deal.
The third year is significant for the Warriors, as that is when Klay Thompson will be up for a new extension in 2019, and Golden State’s tax bill could balloon if they wish to keep their core together.
Iguodala, 33, is coming off another excellent season with Golden State, finishing in the top three of Sixth Man of the Year voting, and first in real-plus minus amongst NBA reserves. Iguodala has spent the previous four years with the Warriors, helping them to two NBA titles in the process, and winning the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.
