The San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors have owned this decade, bringing five championships to the Bay Area. The Giants won in 2010, 2012 and 2014, while the Warriors have dominated lately, winning in 2015 and 2017.
Who can win more? For Giants CEO Larry Baer and Warriors owner Joe Lacob, it’s a fun competition to have.
Baer joined Tolbert and Lund on Tuesday to discuss text messages exchanged with Lacob following the Warriors’ 2017 Finals win over the Cavaliers.
“I hit Joe Lacob with a text the night they won the championship,” Baer said. “You know, ‘congratulations, it’s tremendous, very well done,’ etc, and [Lacob] said ‘One more to go. We got one more to go to catch you.’ It’s great. It’s fun.”
With a young core of players led by Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, the prospect of the Warriors catching (or even passing) the Giants in championships this decade seems very plausible.
Baer also shared his supportive of Giants fans who have been supportive even through a rough 2017 season that has the team at 30-51.
“I’m surprised at the level of patience,” Baer said. “It speaks to the great nature of Giants fans. Giants fans are fantastic.”
