From now on, when people say the name Kevin Durant, they’ll have to add a two-word prefix: NBA Champion. There’s two other words that could be added, too: Finals MVP. The 28-year-old led the Warriors to their second title in three years with a superstar performance that saw him score more than 30 points in each game of the Finals.
Almost instantly after the final horn sounded on the 2016-17 NBA season and the Warriors were crowned champions, Nike saluted their star endorser with a minute-long commercial.
Nike is known for some incredible commercials, and this one did not disappoint. The 60-second journey through Durant’s NBA career wasn’t afraid to bring up the large amount of criticism KD faced for his decision to join Golden State last summer, and even made a “cupcake” reference.
By the end of the spot, however, KD’s 2017 Finals performance did enough to silence each of the loud-mouthed (and eerily realistic) commentators as the words “Debate This” flashed on the screen. Take a look at the full commercial below.
