Bochy reveals Morse suffered rib injury in Strickland-Harper brawl

It’s been over a week since Michael Morse was placed on the seven-day concussion list, but the San Francisco Giants don’t expect Morse back in the immediate future.

Aside from sustaining a concussion during the May 31 brawl featuring Giants’ reliever Hunter Strickland and Nationals’ star Bryce Harper, Bruce Bochy told reporters Morse also injured his ribs after colliding with Giants’ pitcher Jeff Samardzija.

Henry Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle reported the Giants do not expect More to play in their upcoming weekend series against the Minnesota Twins, as Bochy said Morse remains sore from the collision.

Even though it was Harper who took a 98-mile per hour Strickland fastball to the hip ahead of the brawl, Morse emerged from the ensuing brawl with the worst lingering effects of any player.

The first baseman and outfielder is just 7-for-36 this season and has just one home run and three runs batted in for the Giants.

Morse began spring training with the Giants as a non-roster invitee, and put together a strong case to make the ball club before suffering a hamstring injury. Instead of packing it in, the 35-year-old Morse rehabilitated and worked his way back to the big leagues after appearing in three games in A with the San Jose Giants and three games in AAA with the Sacramento River Cats.

After fighting through the hamstring injury, Morse is hoping to overcome another setback with the goal of contributing again shortly.
