Elvis Dumervil to work out with 49ers [report]

The San Francisco 49ers still have plenty of cap room and some time left in the offseason to make some more free agent moves, and have scheduled several workouts with veteran free agents in recent days. Add five-time Pro Bowler Elvis Dumervil to that list.

The outside linebacker will reportedly work out with the 49ers in the next few days, according to a report from ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Dumervil was released by the Baltimore Ravens on March 8 after playing four seasons with the team. Injuries slowed him in 2016 and he played just eight games, but he recorded 3.0 sacks and forced a pair of fumbles. The 33-year-old seemingly hasn’t drawn too much other interest, but the 49ers could be interested in acquiring a veteran pass-rusher with Dumervil’s credentials.

He’s been named First Team All-Pro twice in his career, once with the Denver Broncos and once while in Baltimore. Dumervil has 99 career sacks to his name. The veteran could prove to be a good mentor for the 49ers talented young pass-rushers DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas. We’ll see if any more news comes out of Dumervil’s reported work out with the Niners in the coming days.
