Williamson demoted as Giants call up Triple-A outfielder

Mac Williamson was sent down to Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Tuesday’s game and the Giants have recalled outfielder Orlando Calixte to replace him, the team announced.

Calixte, 25 years old, has three career MLB at-bats, all of which came in 2015 with the Kansas City Royals. The Giants signed him in November and he was played at Triple-A all season, where he’s hit .287 with eight home runs and 11 stolen bases. Calixte was at AT&T yesterday but the Giants waited to make a move for him until today. He will lead off and play left field on Tuesday.

Williamson, who was called up for the injured Hunter Pence a short while ago, will head back to Triple-A, where he’s played already this season. In time split between Single-A and Triple-A, Williamson hit .266 with three homers. He played just 10 games with the big club so far this season and hit a home run, but batted just .161.

He has been shuttled back and forth between San Francisco and Sacramento on several occasions since 2015, so don’t expect this to be the last Giants fans see of Mac Williamson.
