With Steph Curry quietly having maybe his best playoffs ever, and Kevin Durant and Draymond Green playing at a typically high level, one factor has been absent during the Warriors’ 10-0 playoff run: Klay Thompson’s scoring.
Thompson has struggled to get going on the offensive end and is averaging playoff career lows in scoring (14.6 ppg), field goal percentage (.388), and 3-point field goal percentage (.364).
However, Warriors assistant head coach Jarron Collins told Murph & Mac Friday that Thompson’s excellent defense means he is still making a positive impact when he’s on the floor.
“His effort on the defensive end is fantastic,” Collins said. “His ability to get into the ball handler and make it very difficult for that person to score and bring the ball up the floor. You saw the job he did on Damian Lillard in the first round, he was on Gordon Hayward in the second round, and he’s done a really good job so far on Patty Mills this series.”
Despite Thompson’s struggles on the offensive end so far in the playoffs, Collins said he’s confident the three-time All-Star will turn it around.
“He’s been locked in on the defensive end and you know that his shot will come back,” Collins said. “His scoring has been down a little bit but we know that that will come back. He’s just too good of a shooter.”
