SAN FRANCISCO – Wednesday the San Francisco Giants came up short of sweeping their rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 6-1 loss.
Giants starter Johnny Cueto threw an impressive 8 strikeouts in 6 innings but the Dodgers offense kept finding the hole. Cueto gave up 8 hits in 6 innings giving the Giants sluggish offense a lot of ground to cover. Cueto came close several times to limiting the damage with many two-out two-strike situations but the Dodgers offense prevailed.
Bochy after the game understood the tough spot the Dodgers strong offense had put him in.
“What set him back today was a couple two out-two strike hits, he was close to getting out of it.”
“Its a fine line between winning and loosing. They got the key hits and you’re a pitch away from getting out but it didn’t happen.”
Despite a recent surge in hitting the Giants offense did little to support the starting pitcher.
“But the bats were quiet,” Bochy recalled. “Kershaw was his usual good self. We just couldn’t mound any offense today.”
Before Wednesday the Giants had won 5 games in a row, their longest streak of the year. Giants have one day of rest before heading on a 7 day road trip against a tough Cardinals and a Championship Cubs. However, the Giants should see a spike in power on the road after resting Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford and Denard Span today.
