SAN FRANCISCO – A half day after using all seven relief pitchers on the roster to beat the Cincinnati Reds in 17 innings, the San Francisco Giants wanted to lean on Saturday’s starting pitcher Matt Moore to give the bullpen a rest.
And boy, did they.
Moore pitched a stellar game. The lefty allowed only one run in 7.1 innings of work, striking out seven Reds in the process. Moore was the workhorse the Giants needed Saturday, throwing 120 pitches in the win.

After Moore left the game, manager Bruce Bochy called on Hunter Strickland to finish out the eighth inning. Derek Law came in and pitched a relatively-stress free 9th in place of Mark Melancon. The Giants placed Melancon on the 10-day DL retroactive for May 6 for a minor strain near his right elbow.
