The Colin Kaepernick saga continues.
On Thursday, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that the still unsigned Kaepernick has not been in serious discussions with a single NFL team regarding a contract for next season, nor has he had a meeting. Robinson also reported that the rumors regarding Kaepernick asking for a contract worth $10 million per year were false. Robinson’s report was backed up by Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group, who also has heard from sources that Kaepernick has not come close to working out a deal with an NFL team this offseason.
Shortly after, Dr. Harry Edwards, a sociologist who has worked as a consultant with the 49ers for years, and who refers to himself as an “advisor” to Kaepernick, claimed that three teams had reached out to him regarding the quarterback, but that he couldn’t say with confidence whether or not Kap wanted to play football next year.
“They’ve asked, ‘Can he play? Does he want to play?’” Edwards said to USA Today. “The last question I can’t answer. The first question, absolutely. If Kaep makes up his mind, he wouldn’t only go in and make a team, he’d put pressure on somebody to start.”
Kapernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, refuted this claim, and the idea that Edwards is Kaepernick’s advisor, in a tweet sent out Thursday evening.
What supposed “three” teams? If this was really from his “adviser” Colin would of known about it ?? ? https://t.co/Pyc64B6o62

Which finally brings us to today, and a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that he too, has heard on good authority, like Robinson and Kawakami, that Kaepernick hasn’t been anywhere close to signing with a team, and has not received a single serious offer. He also threw Edwards’ credibility into question.
“Per multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the truth in this case is that no inquiries have been made to Kaepernick or his representatives,” Florio said. “And that Edwards seems to be injecting himself into the matter without actually being in the loop.”
If you’re keeping score at home, that’s three reporters and Kapernick’s girlfriend who are claiming that there has been little to no interest in the former 49ers quarterback this offseason. The reasons why are up for debate and likely multifaceted, but many have speculated that Kap is being blackballed for his decision not to stand for the National Anthem last season. This argument has gained considerable steam in recent days, especially after Blaine Gabbert, who lost his job to Kaepernick after looking abysmal in five games last season, was signed by the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Until Kaepernick is signed to a team, don’t expect the rumors or reports surrounding this issue to die down anytime soon.
