We’ve said it before, but it doesn’t seem like it can get much worse for the San Francisco Giants.
On top of everything else, San Francisco lost closer Mark Melancon to the 10-day DL on Tuesday with a right pronator strain in his elbow.
Despite the news, Mike Krukow joined The Murph & Mac Show on KNBR Wednesday morning, advising Giants fans to stay calm.
“Anything that happens in the forearm of any pitcher you start initially thinking Tommy John, immediately,” said Krukow. “That’s the first thing that comes to your mind. When I say raise an eyebrow, that’s always the concern when somebody goes down with an injury or a tenderness in that area.
“Now Mark Melancon’s already had a Tommy John. But this is why I’m a little more positive than others – he has been through this before. He says it’s short term. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume there’s inflammation there, there’s discomfort. Obviously the guy’s a bull, he understands what good pain and bad pain is. When he says he’s going to come off this thing in a short-term fashion, I’m going to choose to believe him.”
