The Cardinals worked out Gabbert last Thursday and apparently liked what they saw enough to sign him as a backup to assumed starter Carson Palmer. Gabbert will likely compete with Drew Stanton for the second-string role.
Gabbert started 13 games for the 49ers over the past two seasons, including five games last year where he threw for 925 yards, five touchdowns, six interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 68.4. Gabbert lost his job to Colin Kaepernick five games into the season after starting 0-5.
Gabbert was a first-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011.
