Kuiper: Giants have nobody to blame but themselves

As of this morning, the San Francisco Giants officially own the worst record in baseball. Not exactly the type of headline this organization is used to seeing, especially when coming into the season expectations for a 90-win season were very high.

Duane Kuiper joined the Murph & Mac Show from New York Tuesday morning with a simple message: The Giants have nobody to blame but themselves.

“They’re 11-22. If you’re an organization you have to sit back and say, ‘Are we deserving of this record?’ and if everybody is going to be honest, they have to say yes we are,” said Kuiper. “Can you blame this record on injuries? Well, you can blame the fact that there are guys that have been out that are really key guys, but other teams have injuries. This is what they’re deserving of right now and the only way that changes is if you start playing better baseball and try to turn this thing around.

“Just don’t look at the standings. Stop. Don’t. Just plug along, grind it out and take it game by game and see if you can get on a decent roll where all of a sudden you’re playing good baseball and you can make a difference in the National League West. But, you deserve this because of how you played. There are no shortcuts to that. You deserve it.”

Besides having the worst record in baseball, the Giants are second-to-last in runs scored (108), second-to-last in slugging percentage (.342) and have the third-highest combined ERA (4.79). They’ll look to even the series Tuesday as Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 5.30 ERA) tries to notch his first win of the year.
