Longtime San Francisco Chronicle baseball writer John Shea joined Joe Castellano on the latest episode on the Inside China Basin podcast. Shea said that Giants manager Bruce Bochy told him during a sit down interview, that he plans on managing through his contract that ends in 2019, as long as the Giants have a chance to win another title.
“Something interesting he told me,” Shea said. “As long as the Giants have a chance to win, he’s gonna keep managing through this contract. In other words if you look around, he wouldn’t be managing the A’s, he wouldn’t be managing some of these teams destined for sub-.500 records. He’s in it because he wants another ring.”
Shea also talked about Matt Cain’s hold on the #5 spot in the rotation.
…“If they can find somebody better and Cain is struggling in May and June I’m sure they will. They’re not going to go on with his struggles forever. But, at the same time I think the last two starts by him have shown that maybe he is able to win and get outs with 88, 90, 91 miles per hour.”
