The Giants placed Buster Posey on the 7-day concussion disabled list after he was hit in the head with a Taijuan Walker fastball during Monday’s game. “I feel pretty good,” Posey said before Tuesday’s game against Arizona. “There’s been some lingering stuff but I’m not really gonna get into details. Overall I feel good and I think we just thought it was the right move, especially being a catcher, you never know.”
Posey said he did not meet with doctors today but was feeling well enough to drive home from yesterday’s game. The Giants recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Sacramento to replace Posey on the 25-man roster. Starting pitcher Clayton Blackburn was designated for assignment to make room for Federowicz.
Giants General Manger Bobby Evans said they do not expect Blackburn to remain with the club. “We’ve always gotten calls on him,” Evans said.
The Giants have had trouble with concussions over the last few seasons having lost Brandon Belt and Joe Panik for extended periods of time. There’s no guarantee that Posey will return to field as soon as hi DL stint is over, “I think just rest, and obviously for me, when I can get my body going and test it out and make sure everything feels good hopefully I’ll be ready to play as soon as I can.”
