As part of Spirit Week to celebrate their 50th season in Oakland, the A’s are holding a hat swap at events throughout the week, where fans can trade in Giants hats for free A’s ones.
Dan Brown of the San Jose Mercury News was in attendance at Thursday’s event, and took a photo of a trash can full of Giants hats that have supposedly been traded in.

The promotional event is both an excellent troll job of the Giants, and the beginning of a concerted effort by new A’s owner Dave Kaval, to secure more fans in the East Bay, where despite the fact that the A’s play there, still has more baseball fans who affiliate themselves with the Giants.
Some on Twitter have called BS on the photo, as the hats don’t exactly look worn, and most of those in the photo seem to be of the same variety.
