Torrey Smith to sign with Eagles on three-year deal [report]

Just two days after his release from the 49ers, wide receiver Torrey Smith has a new home. Smith has agreed to a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $15-million dollars according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal is a bargain for the Eagles, and is worth more in total than the $22 million in guaranteed money Smith received as a part of his contract with the 49ers, that was due to pay him $40 million over five seasons.

Though just 28-years old, it is unclear after two dismal seasons in San Francisco exactly what the Eagles are getting with Smith, who was once one of the most potent downfield threats in the league, but who’s ability to beat defensive backs had diminished in recent years, according to some members of the 49ers coaching staff.

Smith caught a total of 55 passes for 930 yards in two seasons with San Francisco, where he was a part of offenses that finished second-worst in yards gained in consecutive years. Smith gained 1,128 yards with the Ravens in 2013, and caught 11 touchdowns the year after that.

Since cutting Smith, the 49ers have reportedly agreed to deals with wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin
