In his Cavalier debut, Andrew Bogut broke his left tibia Monday night. It was a gruesome and somber scene for the former Warrior in Cleveland. LeBron James said the unfortunate injury took all the energy out of the building in an eventual loss to the Miami Heat.
The Undefeated’s Marc Spears joined Murph and Mac on Tuesday to discuss the injury, and although he hasn’t spoken with Bogut, Spears is speculating this could be it for the Australian center.
“I remember this interview that I had with him. And I always loved Bogut, man. He was always straight, no chaser. He was always good to me,” Spears said. “We talked about his cars and he really liked sporty cars. He collects cars from the 60’s and 70’s. I could just kind of tell, he still loved the game of basketball, but the pain he was enduring trying to keep up and play and overcome injuries that dated back to his days with the Bucks, you could tell it wore on him.
“I kind of felt if something major were to happen, that would be it. I can’t see him trying to return after this.”
Bogut played all 82 games just once in his NBA career. For The Win has a break down of his injury history, many of which have come at incredibly unfortunate times, including last year’s NBA Finals.
“Twelve painful seasons, man,” Spears said. “He was saying stuff like a lot of times it’s very hard for him to get out of bed. He said he wanted to be able to walk. And I mean it ain’t like CTE and football, but if you remember that fall he had in Milwaukee and all the injuries he’s had. Now he’s broken his leg. He’s 32. It’s not like he’s some little point guard or he’s in his twenties. He’s in his thirties now. And he’d be a free agent.
“So I don’t know. I’m not speaking for him. He hasn’t told me anything. But just based on my past conversations with him, when I saw that he got hurt, I was like, that’s probably it.”
As for the Warriors fans trolling Bogut for this injury?
“Some stuff should be prohibited from trolling, you know what I mean?” Spears said. “Let the man go into pasture to Australia in peace.”
On a personal note, I also loved interacting with Bogut. He gave me this real quote last year in Cleveland. Rooting for a quick recovery, Bogs.
