SCOTTSDALE – The San Francisco Giants bullpen struggles of 2016 were well documented, so the front office made the move in the offseason to bring in closer Mark Melancon on a 4-year, $62 million deal.
Saturday Melancon made his spring training debut for the Giants on Saturday against the Cubs, pitching a perfect inning. Pitching coach Dave Righetti had high praise for the Giants’ biggest free-agent splash signing.
“The next four or five years, how long Mark’s here, I know we’re going to have a professional attitude down there. And he’s going to be a leader of that.”
