Steph Curry speaks up about comments from Under Armour CEO

Steph Curry’s business partner, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, was in the news this week for calling President Donald Trump an asset to our country.

Plank was met with waves of criticism for his comments, including a social media hashtag #BoycottUnderArmour, and now some of his famous clients are speaking out.

Bay Area News Group’s Marcus Thompson caught up with Curry on the record, who doesn’t see President Trump as an asset.

“I agree with that description,” Curry said, “if you remove the ‘et’” from asset.

Thompson’s article detailed Curry has spoken with Plank to try and understand what he meant by the comment he made Tuesday on a CNBC appearance. After clarification and statements released by the sports apparel company, Curry said he understands what Plank meant.

“To have such a pro-business president is something that is a real asset for the country,” Plank said. “People can really grab that opportunity.”

Thompson did ask Curry if he would ever consider leaving Under Armour if the company’s social stances did not match with his values. The two-time MVP is standing his ground.

“If there is a situation where I can look at myself in the mirror and say they don’t have my best intentions, they don’t have the right attitude about taking care of people,” Curry said. “If I can say the leadership is not in line with my core values, then there is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn’t jump off if it wasn’t in line with who I am. So that’s a decision I will make every single day when I wake up. If something is not in line with what I’m about, then, yeah, I definitely need to take a stance in that respect.”

Curry is signed under contract with Under Armour until 2024.
