The 49ers haven’t officially announced Kyle Shanahan are their next head coach yet, but that doesn’t mean the 37-year-old is waiting on assembling his coaching staff.

According to Sporting News’ Alex Marvez, Shanahan’s staff will include Jon Embree as assistant head coach/tight ends coach and two holdovers from Chip Kelly’s staff — defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley and linebackers coach Jason Tarver.

Embree has spent the last three seasons coaching tight ends with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He held the same position with Shanahan in Washington in 2010 before leaving for Colorado University to become their head coach. The 51-year-old Embree is a Denver native and also attended Shanahan’s high school, Cherry Creek.

Hafley and Shanahan coached together in Cleveland in 2014. The defensive backs coached under Greg Schiano in Tampa Bay and at Rutgers. The 37-year-old Hafley is well regarded by the locker room and is known for coaching players hard. He did solid work this past season with fourth-round pick Rashard Robinson.

Tarver was also well regarded around the building in Santa Clara and interviewed earlier this offseason for the Redskins’ defensive coordinator opening. Kelly kept Tarver as a holdover from Jim Tomsula’s staff. Prior to that, he was the defensive coordinator in Oakland for three seasons. Tarver is a Bay Area native.

Marvez also reported Shanahan is targeting newly hired Chargers linebackers coach Robert Saleh and Falcons passing game coordinator Jerome Henderson as co-defensive coordinators.

It’s expected Shanahan will be introduced at a press conference later this week.
