John York says report of Jed losing power is completely false

The CBS Sports report that CEO Jed York will be losing his power running the 49ers football front office is “completely” false according to his father, 49ers Co-Chairman John York.

Beat reporters down in Atlanta had the scoop.

Jason La Canfora doubled down on his report twice last week, first with Murph and Mac, and then with this tweet on Saturday.

Since Jed is allegedly staying in power, he will have to get his ducks in a row. Jacksonville fired head coach Gus Bradley on Sunday and the Rams have already fired Jeff Fisher. Teams are putting together search committees for head coaching openings, and with GM Trent Baalke also on their plate, the 49ers have even more to decide than most teams. It might make sense to get the ball rolling now.

If the 49ers wanted to make a sacrificial lamb move, defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil could be in trouble. His defense has now surrounded a franchise worst 2,410 rushing yards.

Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young also stirred the pot this week, saying most NFL owners’ primary focus is making money rather than winning. He used the 49ers as an example over the last 15 seasons.

The 49ers travel to Los Angeles for a Christmas Eve matchup against the Rams. How lovely.
