For the fourth time this season, Draymond Green made a key defensive play to seal victory for the Warriors, stealing the ball from Anthony Davis in Golden State’s 113-109 win over the Pelican’s Tuesday evening.
Golden State head coach Steve Kerr joined Tolbert and Lund on Wednesday afternoon and said that Draymond’s fierce competitiveness and versatility reminds him of one of his former teammates now in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
“I think Dennis Rodman had some of that in Chicago, but probably wasn’t as locked in defensively,” Kerr said. “You know Draymond just gets angry when we lose sorts defensively. With Dennis there was always a show going on along with the tenacity, but he was a fierce competitor and had the same kind’ve versatility.”
“I mean he could switch out on to a point guard or drop back or guard Shaq. Draymond reminds me of Dennis in so many ways, cause he can switch on to Chris Paul or go down and guard Karl Anthony-Towns and everybody in between. Not only can he, but he loves it. He truly relishes those moments. He knows that he can shine.”
Kerr was a teammate of Rodman’s for five seasons with the Bulls from 1995-1998, winning three championships together. Like Green, Rodman was a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate, winning the award twice in 1990 and 1991. He was also known for his fierce rebounding abilities, leading the league from 1992 to 1998.
