OAKLAND, CA – The Golden State Warriors announced tonight that the organization will donate $50,000 in an effort to support families affected by the Oakland fire. The donation will be made to the Unity Council in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of life, economic and educational opportunity, and health and safety of low-income families in that community. Late last night, a fire in the Fruitvale neighborhood claimed the lives of at least nine people, while several others were injured or have been reported missing.
“When a tragedy of this magnitude hits this close to home, we feel it’s imperative to do our small part to help our community and those impacted,” said Rick Welts, Warriors President & COO. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Warriors will offer a moment of silence prior to tonight’s game at Oracle Arena.
