Giants general manager Bobby Evans made headlines yesterday during an exclusive interview with KNBR, claiming that the club was “comfortable” going with the relatively unproven Jarrett Parker and Mac Williamson to fill the vacancy in left field, and was looking for “investment in other areas.”
A report Friday by Jeff Passan from Yahoo Sports seems to indicate otherwise however.
Sources: Giants are exploring all avenues for a power outfield bat. Among those they’ve talked about: J.D. Martinez, who Tigers would deal.

While Evans did say the Giants were looking to make additions elsewhere, he did mention specifically that the club was not pursuing someone with a “multi-year contract”. Martinez, who San Francisco was linked with a few weeks ago, is only under contract for 2017, due $11.75 million.
It would not explain the rumors that the Giants are also in the market for former Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler, who according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, is seeking a multi-year deal worth around $18 million per year.
Word circulating is that Fowler camp thinks they can get 18M per on multiyear. Stl, SF, Tor among teams believed interested

At the moment it remains unclear exactly what the Giants are up to, but with stove starting to heat up, it’s likely we’ll have some clarity on Evans and Co.’s plans in the coming days.
