Chip Kelly addressed 49ers reporters in Orlando Wednesday and confirmed what he’s said all along: he’s not leaving for Oregon.
The Ducks fired Kelly’s successor Mark Helfrich Tuesday night and sent a scathing press release.
“I love everybody associated with the university. They were fantastic,” said Kelly. “If I can help them, I can help them. My thoughts are with Helf right now.”
Because of Nike CEO Phil Knight’s involvement with the program, it’s assumed Oregon will be seeking a big-time college coach to return the program to its dominance from earlier in the decade. Kelly coached at the University from 2009-2012, went 46-7, and three top four finishes in the AP Poll.
