Barrows: 49ers’ next eight games will decide Kelly’s future

Chip Kelly’s first eight games as the 49ers’ head coach have been a disaster. Though under contract for the next three seasons, Kelly’s job doesn’t seem totally secure as his team slogs through a seven game losing streak, while routinely losing by multiple scores. 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows joined Gary and Larry on Thursday morning, and said that Chip’s job will ultimately be decided by whether or not he can turn things around in the second half of the season.

“Everything depends on what he does over these next eight games.” Barrows said when asked about Kelly’s job security.

If that’s the case, the outlook may not be so good, as Barrows could only point to one upcoming game that he thinks San Francisco has a chance in.

“The New York Jets are playing on Monday night…and then they have to go cross country on a short week to play the 49ers. So if I’m circling a game the 49ers could win…that would be my guess at this point.”

The 49ers head to Arizona to face the Cardinals (3-4) on Sunday. San Francisco lost 33-21 in their first matchup at Levi’s Stadium earlier in the season.
