San Francisco Giants broadcaster and KNBR’s own Mike Krukow has been nominated for the 2017 Ford C. Frick Award, given annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Only one broadcaster is given the award each year, with Krukow joining Oakland A’s announcer Bill King, Gary Cohen, Jacques Doucet, Ken Harrelson, Pat Hughes, Ned Martin and Dewayne Staats as the 2017 nominees.
Giants broadcaster Jon Miller won the award in 2010 and was the fourth Giants announcer to receive the honor, joining Lon Simmons in 2004, Russ Hodges in 1980 and Lindsey Nelson in 1988.
Krukow, 64, pitched for the Giants from 1983-89 and has been broadcasting games for the Orange and Black on KNBR since 1990. Krukow’s partner Duane Kuiper was a nominee for the award in 2014, but lost to Texas Rangers announcer Roger Nadel.
The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 7 at the Baseball Winter Meetings in National Harbor, MD.
