The Warriors had their best performance of the young season in Tuesday night’s 127-104 beatdown of the Portland Trail Blazers, but one notable player continued to struggle.
Klay Thompson again wasn’t himself, finishing 0-of-7 from beyond the arc and is now 3-of-28 from deep through the season’s first four games. Considering Thompson is one of the best shooters in NBA history, the numbers are alarming, but Warriors beat writer Anthony Slater told the Murph and Mac Show on Monday that Golden State’s ability to win without one of their top scorers is actually a good sign moving forward.
“I mean look, this guy is a proven sharpshooter,” Slater said. “Way over 40 percent. For him to go 0-of-13 the last couple games, that’s maybe one of the better signs for the Warriors, that not everything’s clicking right now. Ian Clark kind’ve played the role of Klay Thompson last night, but Thompson’s going to be coming at some point.”
The Warriors next game comes against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will never forget what Thompson did to them in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals last year, single handedly keeping Golden State’s season alive with 11 made three pointers in the come from behind victory. Slater, who covered the Thunder last year, said Oklahoma City fans are likely nervous that Thompson is again primed to catch fire at their expense.
“Oklahoma City fans are just covering their eyes thinking it may be against them, because of what he basically did to the franchise by beating the Thunder with that crazy performance in Game 6.”
