Ronnie Lott is tired of hearing excuses. With people all over the Bay Area wondering how the 49ers fell so quickly from being a Super Bowl contender to the league’s worst team, the Hall-of-Fame defensive back says the team does not appear to be playing with passion.
“Clearly, this is a big boy game, and when it’s a big boy game, you better find a way to go out there and find a way to play with a passion. For whatever reason, that is not being exemplified on the football field, especially on the Niners football field,” Lott said.
Another big point of contention among all NFL fans this season is why the league’s television ratings have been struggling. Ratings are down close to 12%, with the NFL scrambling for answers. Many theories have been proposed, but Lott says that there is something missing from this year’s football.
“There are certain teams that play with a certain excellence. And when you don’t see the certain excellence, I think the ratings are down because you don’t see the certain excellence,” Lott said.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, they aren’t playing with the excellence that their former safety is referring to. The bye week is coming at a good time for everyone that is associated with the Red and Gold.
