Krukow: Pulling Moore was the right choice

Hindsight is always 20/20, and after the Giants bullpen gave up a 5-2 lead to the Cubs in a nightmarish ninth inning on Tuesday night, a lot of fans are calling manager Bruce Bochy’s decision to pull starter Matt Moore in the eighth a mistake.

As devastated as anybody, Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow doesn’t think the Giants skipper had much of a choice, telling the Murph and Mac Show on Wednesday morning that Moore’s elevated pitch count essentially forced Bochy’s hand.

“You got a lot of playoffs left, and here’s a guy that just put 120 pitches into a night,” Krukow said. “It isn’t the last start of the year. You’ve got two more tiers, you need this guy, so I don’t think that’s really an argument that’s gonna stick around long. I think everybody for the most part would’ve gone back into the pen. They gave you no reason not to believe in them. The night before you say they blew a save, well yeah, but they also pitched great.”

“There was nobody that was giving you any inclination or hint, that there would be a total collapse last night. I don’t argue with the fact he went to the ‘pen, I really don’t.”
