ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Colin Kaepernick has signed his restructured contract.

The deal, originally reported by Ian Rapoport last Friday, eliminates a $14.5 million injury clause for the 2017 season and gives Kaepernick the option to become a free agent in March.

“We have had conversations,” Kaepernick said about his contract Tuesday in the locker room. “Really don’t want to get into details about that, but those conversations have gone on.”

Chip Kelly made the announcement on Tuesday that Kaepernick will start Week 6 against the Bills. Wise reporters raised their eyebrows Kelly maintained the contract had nothing to do with Kaepernick’s playing time.

“Football decision,” Kelly said when asked about the move. “I don’t even know where his contract status is. That’s a good question for him. But, I’ve never discussed his contract or will I discuss his contract.”

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reported Kaepernick is one of the rare players who reads the entire contract before signing. Schefter added one other detail, tweeted below. The 49ers still will have the ability to cut Kaepernick.
