Legendary Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow started his career as a member of the Chicago Cubs, playing five years in the friendly confines before making his way to San Francisco.
Krukow returns there Friday, along with the Giants, for Game 1 of the NLDS against a Cubs team that put up the best record in the major leagues. The Giants lost the season series 4-3 to Chicago this season, but head into Wrigley riding a five game winning streak, and playing their best ball since the first half, when San Francisco was the only team with a better record then Chicago.
That combined with the Giants recent history in the postseason puts the pressure on the favorites Krukow thinks, and he told the Murph and Mac show Friday morning that although it will be a close series, the Giants are going to continue their roll right through Chicago.
“I do believe, and I’ve believed this all along, the Giants are going to beat them.” Krukow said. “They’re going to break some hearts here. It’s a strong feeling I have, and it’s as strong as I felt in 2010.”
Krukow says the Cubs have been worried ever since the Giants 3-0 victory over the Mets in the NL Wild Card Game, even though New York swept the Cubs in the NLCS last season.
“They were really hoping that the Mets would win, for a lot of reasons, but they get the Giants and they’re feeling the Giants presence. I’m telling you everywhere we go people are asking me about the Giants. They’re very concerned and for good reason, they should be. The Giants are as confident now as they have been all year.”
“I think they’ve been feeling the Giants even since the third out in the ninth inning in New York.”
