After a two Instagram posts by Adrian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig depicted Dodgers players wearing blue and white t-shirts with ‘#DONTLOOKATME’ printed on the front went viral yesterday, Puig amped up the trolling by sending a personalized t-shirt to Madison Bumgarner that included his signature and other messages.
The joke was reportedly well received, yielding laughs from both clubhouses according to ESPN. In addition his signature, Puig added some other messages notably, “I LIKE YOU”, and once again, “Don’t look at me.”
Dodgers’ infielder Charlie Culberson, Bumgarner’s friend since the two were drafted by the Giants in 2007, deserves credit for coming up with the joke. Culberson knew that Bumgarner would appreciate the gesture, and after corresponding with Brandon Belt, found out that the t-shirt was a hit in the Giants clubhouse. Bumgarner was not present to accept the shirt upon delivery from a Dodgers attendant, so his teammates hung it on his locker.
The t-shirt is a lighthearted ending to a rage fueled altercation that took place in the Giants’ 2-1 loss to Los Angeles on Monday, when Bumgarner took exception to Puig staring at him, appearing to yell the now-infamous line, “don’t look at me,” before the two approached each other and had to be separated by teammates.
