Blanco, who has been excellent over his previous four seasons with the Giants as a fourth outfielder and fill-in injury replacement, is struggling this year. He’s slashing just .225/.310/.313 and has six steals in nine attempts.
Hernandez, a native of Venezuela like Blanco, has yet to play for the Giants in the big leagues. Across two seasons (2012 & 2015) with the Pirates and Marlins, Hernandez owns a .186/.260/.292 slash line in 178 plate appearances. This year with the Triple-A River Cats, the 28-year-old hit .302 with eight home runs, 51 RBI and 20 steals in 116 games.
