Chip Kelly revealed major injury news at his press conference Friday in Santa Clara. Wide receiver Eric Rogers, who joined the 49ers soon after Kelly agreed to become head coach, will miss the entire 2016 season after sustaining a torn ACL Thursday during training camp.

Rogers was a standout in the Canadian Football League with Calgary last season, when he caught 87 passes and 10 touchdowns last season. He tried out for 11 NFL teams last winter, including the Philadelphia Eagles when Kelly was still the head coach there, before deciding on San Francisco.

Rogers, 25, is from Glendale, California and is a product of Division III Cal Lutheran.

Torrey Smith is locked in as the 49ers’ No. 1 receiver with Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington and Jerome Simpson the prime candidates for playing time opposite Smith.
