PHILADELPHIA (AP) Newly acquired left-hander Matt Moore will make his first start with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies, bumping veteran right-hander Jake Peavy from the rotation to the bullpen.
The NL West-leading Giants acquired Moore from Tamp Bay for infielder Matt Duffy and two minor leaguers to help get back on track after losing 11 of 15 games since the All-Star break.
Manager Bruce Bochy said prior to Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia that the 27-year-old lefty would take the place of Peavy, who struggled to a 1-2 record with a 5.54 ERA in five July starts.
Bochy says Peavy took the news in stride, saying “he’s all in” and that “whatever we need him to do to help the ballclub, he’s willing to do.”
