Giants starting pitcher Jake Peavy called into Murph & Mac on Friday morning to discuss the team’s 0-5 record since the All-Star break, the Grateful Dead, and his emotional return to Boston.
Peavy pitched the first game of the Boston series, limiting the Red Sox potent lineup to just three hits— but he also allowed four runs and he took the loss, dropping to 5-8 on the year. The Giants lost the next game, too, but ferociously fought back from an 8-0 deficit to come within a single run of tying the game and snapping the losing streak.
Peavy feels that tough 11-7 loss on Wednesday, embodies the Giants’ identity so far this season.
“The game two nights ago was indicative of who we are and the way we play, fighting back from an 8-0 deficit… the guys just played down to the very end,” said the veteran.
While the loss was disappointing, Peavy and Giants take positivity from the heart and the grit the team showed in not giving up. Peavy looked for the silver lining from a tough stretch of games, commenting, “I don’t mind go through a little tough times, it builds some character and makes us who were going to be in the end.”
The Giants face the Yankees tonight in New York, and don’t bet on San Francisco continuing their slide, with ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner taking the mound in the Bronx.
And Peavy fully expects Mad-Bum to deliver on Friday.
“I promise you this, there is no panic — no pun intended there — but there is no panic within the group of guys. Any time you have the left hander (Bumgarner) coming, like we do tonight, you like your chances.”
