NBA Hall of Famer and Warriors Executive Jerry West joined Murph & Mac on KNBR on Monday morning, and among the topics discussed was the recent arrest of Draymond Green.

West said that although he loves Green as a player and as a person, he needs to avoid putting himself in possibly contentious situations moving forward.

“If he’s not my favorite player, then I don’t know who would be, but he needs to not put himself in these situations,” West said of Green’s recent late-night confrontation in Michigan that culminated in the All-Star being arrested for assault.

West went on to say that he hopes Green can represent his country well during the Olympic process, but the 1960 Olympian also had some interesting takes on how the competition is contested in this day and age.

When West played in the Olympics, he had just finished his college career at West Virginia University, and professionals weren’t allowed to partake.

“I wish we would get away from the system we have, to me this is a system that really is not good,” West said of the stacked USA teams that typically steamroll through the competition.

West advocated for younger players to get a shot in the Olympics, and also said he wished players were limited to playing in just two different Olympics. Citing the need for the league’s biggest stars to get sufficient rest in the offseason, West said he thinks a change to the current Olympic system would most benefit NBA teams.

The conversation about the Olympics and Draymond Green starts around the 10:15 mark of the interview.
