In recent years, the NFL has made a push to increase its global popularity by scheduling regular season games in London. The league is now planning to expand its reach even further. According to Don Muret of the Sports Business Daily, the 49ers are reportedly going to play the Los Angeles Rams in a regular season game in China in 2018.

“We have not announced the Rams’ opponent in the event we play a game there. We have said we are exploring playing a game there but nothing is definitive,” NFL VP/Communications Brian McCarthy said in the report.

The 49ers are no stranger to international competition. In 2013, they beat the Jaguars 42-10 at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The NFL owners still have to approve the China plan at their meeting in October.
