The Warriors’ quest to find a replacement for Luke Walton may be nearing its end, as Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday morning that Golden State has offered Mike Brown the lead assistant position.
Brown has been a head coach three times, with Cleveland from 2005-2010 and 2013-2014, and with the Lakers from 2011-2012. He has also served as an assistant with the Wizards, Spurs, and Pacers, and spent a significant amount of time around Gregg Popovich and the Spurs in an unofficial role this past season, according to Wojnarowksi.
Brown and the Warriors are now working to come to an agreement on contract terms, according to the report. The Warriors have interviewed several candidates over the past few months since Luke Walton announced he would be leaving at season’s end to accept the Lakers’ head coaching position. It is the second straight offseason that the Warriors have had to replace their top assistant, as Alvin Gentry left to coach the Pelicans after last year’s championship run.
Brown won NBA Coach of the Year in 2009, and coached LeBron James for five years, including taking Cleveland to the NBA Finals in 2007.
